Indoor wayfinding with GoodMaps

The GoodMaps app offers travelers who are blind or visually impaired the independence and autonomy to discover and get around our terminal without the need for sighted assistance.

Anyone at PDX who has GoodMaps installed on their phone will receive both audible and visual guidance to destinations such as ticket counters, the TSA Security checkpoint, the gate of their flight, and baggage claim when they arrive. Other possible destinations in the terminal include restrooms, places to eat, drink, or shop, or water fountains, to name a few.

Areas under construction areas will be mapped or re-mapped as they are completed.

The GoodMaps app is free to download on both iOS and Android platforms and supports 18 languages. While you’re at PDX, you’re welcome to use our free Wi-Fi network (flyPDX). If you run into any difficulties while using the app, try using your cellular connection as an alternative.

Aira Visual Interpreting

The Aira Explorer app provides assistance for people who are blind or have low vision. The Aira app will place a call from your phone to a live, professionally trained Aira agent. This agent will visually interpret what is in your phone camera’s view, and can help by describing what’s around you, reading signs or restaurant menus, or navigating from one point in the terminal to another, safely and securely. Aira agents are available 24/7, 365 days a year.

How does it work?

  1. Download the Aira Explorer Interpreting app on your phone.
  2. Open the app and select "Call Interpreter" to initiate a video call.
  3. A visual interpreter will appear on your screen and facilitate real-time conversations.
