Media Guide & Resources
Let's Work Together.
The Port of Portland’s Media Relations team works with news organizations to keep everyone informed of what’s happening at our airports, marine terminals, and business and industrial parks, as well as situations that involve Port of Portland Police and Portland Airport Fire and Rescue. It's important to us to share how we’re engaging with our community.
Within this media guide, you’ll find answers to the questions we’re asked most often, as well as resources that are available 24/7.
Although many of our operational areas are closed to the general public because of security, safety, and operational concerns, the pre-security areas of the Portland International Airport (PDX) are open to the public. We also offer media escorts at our facilities and properties, when possible.
Media Inquiries
If you’re a member of the media seeking information about Port of Portland operations, please reach out to media@portofportland.com.
The inbox is monitored between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. PT on weekdays and during active incidents. Standard inquiries are typically responded to within one to two business days. In the event of a major incident, you can check our Incident Response page for updates with official statements.

PDX Media FAQ
Yes, members of the media should park in the short-term parking garage.
Pull a ticket when entering the parking garage and show your media credentials to the attendant when exiting the property to have the ticket validated.
For news vehicles taller than eight feet that cannot clear the parking garage, limited spots are available on the upper outer roadway by valet (departures/ticketing level). If you have a large media vehicle and need to use this option, please reach out to the Port’s Media Relations team in advance to secure a spot.
Because of the many partner agencies and tenants on-site at PDX, we may not be able to provide details on an event that occurs at PDX.
In this case, we will defer to one of our partners for further statements. Here are a few of the most common referrals:
- For aircraft incidents: contact the airline(s) involved
- For events in the airspace around PDX or related to air traffic control: contact the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
- For events that involve security checkpoints: contact the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
Media have access to the pre-security public areas of PDX, including the ticket lobby, but please notify media@portofportland.com ahead of filming.
There is a designated media area near the B/C security checkpoint on the South Mezzanine level with an excellent view of the terminal. Media are currently allowed to set up elsewhere in the ticket lobby, but set-up should not interfere with airport operations or the traveler experience.
If setting up outside the designated media area, please be mindful not to interfere with airport operations or the traveler experience.
The PIO and/or airport operations have the right to restrict media activity at any location on airport premises, if there are public security, safety, or operational concerns.
We do our best to accommodate commercial photography/filming requests. A permit is required when we are able to do so.
We do not allow filming in areas where there are security, safety or operational concerns. Any requests to film on tenant-leased spaces (e.g. airline ramps) need to be approved by the tenant.
To begin the permit request process or to learn more, please visit Filming at PDX.
If you are a member of the media looking to film for editorial purposes, you do not need to submit a permit request. Please contact media@portofportland.com. For those looking to film social content, please reach out to social@portofportland.com.
Two public areas offer views of the runway:
- The top floors of all three parking garages are open-air and have clear views of the runways. Parking fees apply.
- The parking lot on Air Cargo Road, just west of the entrance to the Cell Phone Waiting Lot, is adjacent to the airfield fence and has a partial view of the south runway. Media and plane spotters are permitted to be outside of their vehicles in this lot, but please stay next to your car and clear of the construction staging area.
Our 11-year, $2.15 billion PDX main terminal construction project completed in June 2026, boosting seismic resilience, cutting our carbon footprint and creating capacity for more travelers through the airport. The final result is a love letter to the Pacific Northwest, written by thousands of people who live and work here. It’s all about the local brands, the local character, and the local culture that make PDX feel like home.
Check out quick highlights from the project, or visit PDX Stories to go deeper on stories about the thousands of local people and businesses who helped us bring the new terminal to life.
