Airline Support

Airlines serving PDX offer assistance programs for travelers with special needs, including those with disabilities or medical conditions, those needing wheelchairs, unaccompanied minors, older travelers, those needing escorts through the airport, and those traveling with service animals.

Types of assistance can include:

  • Wheelchair service
  • Assistance for passengers with cognitive, developmental, hearing, or vision disabilities
  • Support for traveling with medical devices, including battery-operated mobility devices, which may require contacting the airline's Special Assistance department to confirm the battery type is approved for travel
  • Pre-boarding to help with boarding, deplaning, or stowing assistive devices

Some airlines may require a safety assistant for travelers who cannot understand or follow safety instructions or physically assist in their own evacuation.

To request airline assistance, visit your airline’s website when booking your flight, or at least 48 hours before you plan to arrive at PDX.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Discrimination Complaint Procedures

It is unlawful for airport operators and their lessees, tenants, concessionaires and contractors to discriminate against any person because of race, color, national origin, sex, creed, or disability in public services and employment opportunities. Allegations of discrimination are serious and should be promptly reported to the Airport Manager or to:

Customer Service and Information

You can find PDX employees and volunteers ready to help you at various locations throughout PDX. Many offer support in languages other than English. Look for the people dressed in blue uniforms. You can also text or call 503-460-4234 for assistance, from 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Spanish speakers will find Spanish translations of select signage throughout the airport. Select information on this website is also available in Spanish. If your browser is set to English, you can manually change your language selection from “EN” for English to “ES” for Spanish using the dropdown menu in the top right corner of your screen. If your web browser is set to Spanish, the “ES” option will be selected by default.

 

TSA Cares Program

The TSA Cares program aims to help travelers with disabilities or medical conditions and individuals needing additional assistance better prepare for the security screening process.

TSA has modified procedures to make sure your screening experience is smooth and seamless.

Therapy Dogs

We know travel can be stressful for many. Overseen by DoveLewis, our PDX dog therapy program works to provide calm and comfort to PDX travelers at PDX. Trained dog therapy teams can be found in different areas of the terminal, typically during the busiest travel hours at different locations throughout the airport, on a rotating basis.
