Accompanying Minors and People with Special Service Requests to/from the Gate
A gate pass is required in order to escort a solo traveler with special service requests (SSRs) to or from an arrival or departure gate, such as an unaccompanied child, an older traveler, or person with disabilities. To request a gate pass, you must visit the traveler’s airline ticket counter at PDX, so make sure to allow for extra time in case of lines at the ticket counter.
Note that each airline has their own gate pass policy, and not all airlines will issue a gate pass. Only one person may be allowed to accompany a special-needs passenger to or from the gate. Be sure to verify the airline’s gate pass policy before arriving at PDX.
When requesting a gate pass for an arriving flight, check with the airline in advance to make sure their ticket counter will be open at the time of the arrival. Please be prepared to provide Real ID identification (e.g. Passport) and arriving flight information.
