Prohibited Items
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has revised the rules regarding liquids, gels or aerosols in carry-on luggage at U.S. airports. There are now some exceptions that make it easier to take small amounts of toiletries in your carry-on bag. In addition, the new rules allow for travelers, after they go through the security checkpoint, to purchase and take on board a beverage and/or small amounts of liquid or gel-like items such as shampoo or toothpaste. To learn more please visit the TSA Web site at the link below.
Please note that many sharp objects and other items that may be used as weapons are still not allowed in your carry-on luggage or past the security checkpoints.
Common lighters are now allowed in carry-on luggage. Torch lighters will continue to be banned in carry-ons.
If a prohibited object is discovered, you have the option of relinquishing the item to security staff, putting it in your checked bag, leaving the line to mail the object home in a padded envelope, or staying in line and using a Mailsafe Express mailing station at the security checkpoint to mail your item. If you choose to leave the line, envelopes can be purchased at a nearby Hudson News retail store, and postage stamps can be purchased at service centers near the checkpoints.
The TSA is the federal agency that has total responsibility for the policies, procedures, equipment and staffing associated with security screening at all U.S. airports. Please check the TSA's Web site for important instructions on how to pack and present these items for inspection.
